The Price of Worker's Comp

One Worker’s Comp claim can cost a company tens of thousands of dollars. No matter how many employees you have, that amounts to a heavy financial risk. You can mitigate that risk through a company culture where “safety” is not just a word but is a way of life.

“For REXEL USA, our most important asset is our team – we believe our employees are the most important component to successful operations and superior customer service. Keeping employees S.A.F.E. is our #1 priority – S.A.F.E. is an acronym that stands for Stay Alert & Focused Everyday. It’s this acronym that helps us build on our Culture of Safety.”

– William Reynolds, Rexel USA’s National Safety Manager

A Culture of Safety

This is the corporate culture at REXEL USA, a leading electrical distributor that was able to reduce its Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR) by half in a matter of 5 years. Ultimately REXEL USA received the highest marks possible on ISNetworld’s Review and Verification Services (RAVS) evaluation of their Safety Training. Much of this training was developed with the help of the Creative Services team at BlueVolt.

Fast-Tracking the Move to 100% Online

The COVID 19 pandemic presented challenges for providing in-person safety training. For REXEL USA, what had once been partially online went fully online with little time to plan. Almost instantly, all of the high priority Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) training for nearly 6,000 employees moved online. The result? Online EHS Training, developed with BlueVolt, achieved a 100% completion rate. This was an approximate 2% increase over previous years. This is more significant than it may seem. First, that 2% is 100 – 150 more people less likely to be injured and file a Worker’s Comp claim. Second, those additional employees are less likely to commit an OSHA violation that could cost the company thousands of dollars in fines. And, third, those employees now embody more of the corporate culture of safety that results in higher industry ratings and a safer, more productive workforce.

“Safety is not a word, it’s is a way of life!”

Mutual Respect Powers Strong Connections

REXEL USA has partnered with BlueVolt for over 6 years, now. It is this partnership of mutual respect that allowed REXEL USA to quickly pivot when needed. That’s the advantage of a powerful connection between a company that values its employees and one that leads the way in training development.
